Miami working way into mix for top-40 Ala. safety who visited for Clemson game: “Miami sits pretty high on my radar”

Miami may not have been a school name commonly heard for Oxford (Ala.) Thompson 2025 four-star safety Anquon Fegans earlier this summer while he was committed to USC (he’s no longer committed), but the No. 34 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 3 safety has plenty of positive thoughts about the Hurricanes after his first unofficial game day visit to Hard Rock Stadium Saturday night.

The 6-foot, 190-pound safety and younger brother of of one-time Miami commit Tre’Quon took his first visit to Coral Gables this fall after decommitting from USC at the start of August. Anquon previously visited Miami for an unofficial visit in January while in South Florida for a 7-on-7 competition but had not had extensive contact with the Hurricanes’ staff since. Contact picked up between the two sides around Aug. 1.

Miami is a program he knows he wants to consider.

“They’re a program I want to heavily consider just because of their history,” Anquon said. “When you look at their history, they’re great at producing DB’s and defensive guys.”

Anquon said his brother’s former commitment to Miami hasn’t played a factor in his interest in the Hurricanes and he also visited Miami with his mother and younger brother, although this was the first time he’s taken a game-day visit to Hard Rock with an offer from the Hurricanes.

Georgia, Auburn and Florida have been among the programs continuing to court Anquon. He’s also made trips to LSU, Alabama and Georgia since mid-July.

“Miami sits pretty high on my radar,” Fegans said. “I’m a defensive guy, so I like the defense.”

Anquon additionally told CaneSport he felt the atmosphere for the Hurricanes’ 28-20 double-overtime win over Clemson was “amazing” and thought the defense played “lights out” after forcing three turnovers and making a goal line stand to win the game.

CaneSport’s Take

Anquon has been hearing from members of the Hurricanes’ recruiting staff for several months, but now that he’s taken a game-day visit to Hard Rock we’ll be interested to see if Miami’s on-field staffers (secondary coach Jahmile Addae and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry) really amp up the pressure in his recruitment. There’s little doubt the Canes will continue to closely watch his recruitment as the fall goes on.
