Offensive observations from Ohio State June 17 camp
COLUMBUS — Ohio State put on its fifth and final recruiting camp of the summer on Monday and the Buckeyes had plenty of impressive talent work out.
That included two four-star quarterbacks in the 2026 cycle, multiple Ohio State commitments and a few more prospects that impressed the coaching staff.
Lettermen Row wastes no time getting into the observations from Monday’s camp.
QUARTERBACKS
There was a talented group of quarterbacks at Ohio State on Monday. Ohio State offered three signal-callers from the group: four-star Long Beach (Calif.) Narbonne quarterback Jaden O’Neal, four-star Indialantic (Fla.) Cocoa quarterback Brady Hart and 2027 Lake In The Hills (Ill.) Carmel Catholic quarterback Trae Taylor. All three impressed in different ways and earned an offer with their camp performance.
O’Neal, the No. 78 overall prospect in the 2026 On3 Industry Rankings, was Lettermen Row’s personal favorite quarterback of the day. The 6-foot-3 and 200-pound O’Neal is a powerful passer that throws with a lot of pace and can make almost any throw on the field.
Hart, the No. 92 overall prospect in the 2026 On3 Industry Rankings, also had his moments. He is a very natural thrower and throws with great touch to all levels of the field. Hart seemed to be nursing a sore shoulder but toughed the camp out and turned in an all-around great performance.
As for Taylor, he went throw for throw with both O’Neal and Hart despite being a year younger. He threw the ball well to all three levels of the field and continued to improve throughout the camp as he learned more from the Ohio State coaching staff. Overall, The 6-foot-2 and 200-pound prospect has a lot of arm talent at a young age and is now the second signal-caller in the 2027 class that Ohio State has offered.
CHRIS HENRY JR.
Uncommitted prospects get all the attention at these camps, and rightfully so, but it is always fun to see an Ohio State commitment come to camp and put on a show, which is what Five-Star Plus+ Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. did on Monday.
The 6-foot-5 Henry stood out to Lettermen Row right away on Monday morning as he has gotten noticeable bigger since the end of his sophomore season. He told Lettermen Row after the camp that he hovering 200 pounds right now after playing most of his junior season in the 180-190 range.
Henry’s added size also showed up on the field as he was able to shield off defensive backs and play through contact throughout the competition portion of the camp. He also impressed in drill work as he moved better than some of the smaller prospects at the camp. Henry also showed off his incredible catch radius on a several occasions with a few circus catches.
All in all, it looked like Henry has continued since the end of sophomore season and he was already a Five-Star Plus+ prospect.
BEN NICHOLS
The offensive line group at Ohio State on Monday drew a tough assignment with some of the top defensive line prospects in the country in Columbus to work with defensive line coach Larry Johnson. Still four-star Davison (Mich.) offensive lineman Ben Nichols, the No. 232 overall prospect in the 2026 On3 Industry Rankings, more than held his own..
At 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, Nichols is a first off the bus type prospect but he also moved really well on Monday. Whether it was testing or drill work or the competition portion of the camp, Nichols caught the attention of Lettermen Row with his food speed and movement ability.
Offensive line coach Justin Frye is meticulous in his evaluations but he saw enough Nichols at camp to offer him a scholarship.
CARSYN BAKER
Running backs coach Carlos Locklyn had perhaps his best collection of running backs this summer at camp on Monday and four-star Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes running back Carsyn Baker was the most impressive in Lettermen Row’s eyes.
Similar to Nichols, Baker is an impressive looking prospect. Locklyn likes his running backs to be bigger and Baker is every bit of 6-foot, 195 pounds of that he is listed at on his On3 profile. He moved well through drills and caught the ball well during the completion portion of the camp.
Baker, the No. 258 overall prospect in the 2026 On3 Industry Rankings, earned an offer from Ohio State with his camp performance.
