Ohio State trending to flip 4-star DL Amaris Williams from Florida

Ohio State trending to flip 4-star DL Amaris Williams from Florida

Ohio State’s 2024 recruiting class is stacked at just about every position — including defensive line.

The Buckeyes have three DL commits as of Nov. 14, two of whom are top-25 overall prospects: Chicago St. Ignatius five-star Justin Scott, Buford (Ga.) five-star Eddrick Houston and Stafford (Va.) Mountain View three-star Eric Mensah.

Head coach Ryan Day, DL coach Larry Johnson and OSU might not be done recruiting at the position however, as they’re now trending to pull off a blue-chip flip for an elite D-lineman committed to a touted SEC program, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Clinton (N.C.) four-star Amaris Williams committed to Florida back on June 17, choosing the Gators over Georgia, Tennessee and Penn State. The Buckeyes didn’t even get in the mix for Williams until they extended an offer at the beginning of October.

Since then, Williams took an official visit to Columbus on Oct. 21, then returned last weekend for an unofficial visit. Now, following multiple predictions logged by recruiting insiders, OSU appears to be in position to potentially flip the 6-foot-2.5, 265-pounder away from UF.

“Obviously huge for Ohio State, they offered him at this point about a month ago, were able to get him on campus for an official visit pretty quickly and now get him back just two-three weeks later, that’s obviously tremendous momentum for this program,” Ohio State recruiting insider Alex Gleitman said last week on The Inside Scoop.

“They’ve been pressing Amaris Williams hard, he’s a guy that they want really, really bad.”

Buckeyes still have room in 2024 recruiting class

Ohio State’s 2024 class is absolutely loaded, and barring unforeseen setbacks, is set to finish No. 2 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, behind only Georgia. The class currently features 22 commits, so there’s still some wiggle room to add prospects to the fold.

Williams is an ideal candidate. If he were to flip to OSU, he would be the 13th top-200 recruit on Day’s pledge list. Florida currently has the No. 4 class in the nation, but has recently lost a pair of elite four-star pledges in Picayune (Miss.) EDGE Jamonta Waller (flip to Auburn) and Marrero (La.) John Ehret cornerback Wardell Mack (flip to Texas.)

Williams has an On3 NIL Valuation of $109K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
