One of the nation’s top committed QBs visiting Auburn this weekend
Auburn is still in the market for its 2025 quarterback, with a number of recruiting targets still on the Tigers board.
Four-stars Husan Longstreet and TJ Lateef top that list when it comes to uncommitted prospects. But Hugh Freeze and Co. are also working on a few flips — namely USC five-star commit Julian Lewis and Texas four-star commit K.J. Lacey.
The latter hails from Saraland (Ala.) High, a hotbed for both Alabama and Auburn in recent years. And despite Lacey committing to Texas last summer over Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida State, Auburn and others, the pursuit of him hasn’t stopped.
On Saturday, he arrived on The Plains for a surprise visit alongside dozens of other top Auburn targets in the 2025 and 2026 classes, according to AuburnLive’s Cole Pinkston. It marks his first visit to Auburn since December.
Tigers continues to push for Lacey as a top QB target
Lacey told InsideTexas earlier this month that Auburn, Ole Miss, and Oregon as three schools that have continued to recruit him the hardest after his commitment.
With the Longhorns, Lacey said he still feels great about his pledge and that Texas is “where I want to be at and that’s where I’m going.” Accordingly, he has his official set up to Texas on June 21-23. That’s currently the only official visit on his calendar.
“Just knowing that Texas is going uphill from here,” Lacey said of why he remains committed to Texas. “Just knowing as soon as I get here, I’m going to be developed to be my best self until I get to the next level after that. I’m going to have my teammates around me, the class is going to get built up, and with the people that are going to be there before and I after I get here is going to keep it going uphill.”
Along with Lacey, Lewis, Longstreet and Lateef, Auburn is also recruiting another quarterback target — Anderson (S.C.) Westside passer Cutter Woods. Auburn offered Woods earlier in February and is working to get him on campus for a visit in March. He’s already familiar with Freeze and Austin and the two coaches are familiar with him. Freeze and Austin offered Woods while at Liberty after seeing him in camp before his sophomore season.
Lacey, the No. 73 overall prospect and No. 8 quarterback nationally, was recently invited to the Elite 11 Finals this summer in Los Angeles, the nation’s most prestigious quarterback camp.
As a junior last season for Saraland, he completed nearly 70 percent of his passes while throwing for 3,400 yards and 42 touchdowns with eight interceptions.
