Packed recruiting intel: 3-star RB RJ Boyd sets commitment date
NC State zeroed in on RJ Boyd as one of the program’s top priority running back prospects months ago. The three-star rising senior from Waycross (Ga.) Ware Country High visited the Wolfpack over the weekend and has a decision date tentatively set.
Boyd plans on announcing his decision June 29, he informed TheWolfpacker.com Monday night. He spent June 14-16 with the Wolfpack— his second trip to campus after stopping by in the spring as well.
The running back holds offers from Missouri, Indiana and others, but his recruitment is down to two schools— NC State and Duke.
“They have shown me I’m a priority and will help me be a better player and man,” Boyd told TheWolfpacker.com. “This will be a rough decision because I love both schools.”
After officially visiting both the Wolfpack and Blue Devils this month, he’s almost ready to make his commitment. He previously planned on visiting USF June 21-23 but will no longer make that trip.
NC State impressed Boyd and his family
Boyd’s weekend with the Pack was one of the most anticipated visits of the summer . NC State has been the trending team for months here, and Boyd said the trip “went awesome.”
He visited alongside his parents— Dantay Cooper and Lashunda Stone-Cooper. They also enjoyed the trip to Raleigh.
“The trip went really well,” Stone-Cooper told TheWolfpacker.com.
“Beautiful campus, great staff, very attentive, very informative and thorough. I love the library— very innovative.”
Dantay Cooper echoed a similar sentiment. This was Boyd’s first time back on campus after stopping by for spring practice.
“We had an awesome visit,” Cooper said. “A ton of information that was very pertinent to helping him make a decision. We enjoyed the panel of former and current players, as well as the admissions team. Loved the setup of the campus and the cozy feel. Every coach spent time with us and made RJ feel like a priority.”
What’s next for NC State running back recruiting
Boyd will spend the next 11 days deciding between Duke and NC State. TheWolfpacker.com submitted an RPM pick in the Pack’s favor March 5 and plans on keeping that prediction unless the momentum around the Ware County star shifts drastically.
NC State prioritized two running backs this cycle— Boyd and three-star prospect Kentrell Rinehart. The Pack would take both of their commitments if they wanted to join the class. Going into Rinehart’s June 21-23 official visit, it appears NC State is the favorite for both prospects. The program sits in a great spot to land both of its top running back recruits this cycle.
