Penn State adds another in-state target to Saturday’s junior day

Penn State adds another in-state target to Saturday’s junior day

In-state offensive lineman Joshua Williams confirmed with Blue White Illustrated Wednesday that he’ll be back at Penn State this upcoming Saturday, Jan. 20. Listed at 6-foot-3, 290 pounds, Williams picked up an offer from the Nittany Lions back in June after camping with the staff.

At the time, Penn State was the second school to offer the Haverford prospect. Now, he’s up over a dozen offers total, taking visits to Nebraska, Stanford and Virginia since last summer. Williams is also expected to see Michigan for the first time next weekend, Jan. 27. The Wolverines offered back in November.

Saturday’s visit will be Williams’ fourth trip to State College overall. In addition to camp, he also attended the games against both Iowa and West Virginia in September. He made it clear at the time that an offer from Penn State was significant.

“My dad has been following Penn State for so long,” Williams said following one of his visits this past fall. “To get an offer from the school that has always been on the TV, it was amazing to see. My dad is always proud of me, but this filled him with so much joy. That made it a really special offer, for sure.”

Williams’s relationship with Phil Trautwein is also off to a strong start.

“You can tell he really cares. He was just telling me the other day that all he wanted to see was his players do well,” Williams said. “The amount of care that he puts into his guys and the team is amazing. It’s what you want from a coach. Even when I met him, and the amount of care and coaching he put into me, it made me better. So, you can really tell that he’s a great coach and a great guy, too.”

According to On3’s Industry Rankings, which combine On3, 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN for a cumulative grade, Williams is ranked No. 424 nationally in the Class of 2025. He’s the 31st-ranked interior offensive lineman and No. 15 in Pennsylvania.

Blue White Illustrated has now confirmed more than 40 players who plan to visit Penn State this weekend. Over half of those players currently hold an offer from the Nittany Lions and are uncommitted. Williams is the third scholarship offensive lineman to confirm he plans to attend, joining Connecticut native Owen Aliciene and New York native Rowan Byrne.
