Recruiting Humidor: Portal news, Texas coaches on the road
Inside Texas takes a look at the latest from the NCAA transfer portal, plus more Texas coaches on the road in this edition of the recruiting humidor.
Matthew Golden, WR, Houston via Klein (Texas) Cain
Texas and the Houston speedster have been in contact and the Horns are certainly interested, sources tell Inside Texas.
Golden was recruited by Texas during his time at Klein Cain, but both went in a different direction. Think Brenen Thompson. Now, after two strong seasons at UH, Texas and Golden are rekindling the relationship. Golden would be an excellent fit in the Texas offense.
Princely Umanmielen, EDGE, Florida via Manor (Texas)
The former Austin area prospect who the Longhorns pursued during the recruiting process is back in contact with the Texas staff, per sources. We can’t confirm an actual offer, but Umanmielen and Texas have connected.
Watch Nebraska here with his little brother, Princewill Umanmielen, playing in Lincoln.
Andrew Mukuba, DB, Clemson via Austin (Texas) LBJ
Another local prospect that hit the portal is connecting with Texas. And now he’s scheduling a visit to Texas over the next week, sources tell On3.
Mukuba is also looking at trips to Oklahoma, Oregon, and Ole Miss. Mukuba’s versatility would be critical for Texas’ secondary in 2024, with his potential at both safety spots and Star/nickel.
Xavier Filsaime, S, McKinney (Texas) High – Florida commit
The Thursday in-home visit with Steve Sarkisian and Blake Gideon went well, as expected. Filsaime understands that Texas presents the ability to come in as a mid-term enrollee and compete very early at the safety position.
Up next will be an in-home visit with Billy Napier, defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong and the new DB hire. Florida has its man, but it may not be announced until Sunday or Monday. That in-home will be very quickly after the new hire becomes public.
Filsaime remains scheduled to officially visit Texas on December 15-17.
Terrance Hibbler, DL, Lexington (Miss.) Holmes County – Mississippi State commit
Defensive line coach Bo Davis made an in-home visit with the Mississippi State verbal on Thursday. Word from a source close to the recruitment is Davis laid out the Texas development at the defensive line position thoroughly. And the message was if you want to be a great player and be developed, the Texas staff would love to have you in the class. The ball has been left in Hibbler’s court.
Alabama and Auburn have also remained in contact with the 6-foot-2, 285-pounder.
Alex Foster, DL, Greenville (Miss.) St. Joseph’s High – Baylor commit
Bo Davis visited the 6-4, 263-pound defensive lineman on Wednesday. Foster remains committed to Baylor. It’s not out of the question Texas could bring in Foster December 15 for an official visit. But that is just a possibility at this point.
Steve Sarkisian’s known in-home scheduled
Saturday – Ryan Wingo (with Chris Jackson).
Monday – D’antre Robinson, Solomon Williams and IMG Academy (Jordon Johnson-Rubell and Jerrick Gibson)
Tuesday – Colin Simmons and Alex January
Wednesday – Nate Kibble, Trey Owens and Jordan Washington
Thursday – Daniel Cruz
Friday – Melvin Hills
