Recruiting Tidbits: Will LSU add to the commit list on Saturday?

Recruiting Tidbits: Will LSU add to the commit list on Saturday?

LSU landed a commitment from a 5-star+ prospect this week in DJ Pickett, who checks in as the No. 1 cornerback and No. 3 overall prospect on the On3 Rankings.

With the No. 1 overall prospect committed to LSU in 5-star+ quarterback Bryce Underwood, and the No. 1 running back committed in 5-star Harlem Berry, the Tigers jumped Georgia and Oregon for the No. 3 class on the On3 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings.

Now, two more Top 100 prospects are set to announce college decisions on Saturday, and LSU will have hats on the table for both.

Can LSU stay hot and add more top talent to the 2025 class? Here’s the latest from from The Bengal Tiger’s Shea Dixon.

The race for a Top 10 WR

4-star WR Derek Meadows … Meadows was set to commit a week ago, but instead pushed the date back to July 20. The announcement has a handful of finalists remaining, and without much strong buzz around Alabama, Georgia and Michigan, it doesn’t appear the narrative has changed here. Meadows, who had been considered a longtime Notre Dame lean, is most likely mulling over a top two of LSU and the Irish. While he moved back the date a week ago, tomorrow’s announcement is expected to go through with a 2 p.m. CT reveal.

Where I’m leaning: I said before that I felt LSU was a dark horse not getting enough credit for the job done by the staff and the interest Meadows has in the program. Between speaking with sources and watching things play out, I think Meadows was set to pop for LSU a week ago before a strong push from Notre Dame – and maybe even others – had him press pause. One week later, I haven’t heard enough to change my stance that LSU is sitting in a good spot. On3’s Steve Wiltfong said the same on Friday, adding that he’s leaning towards the Tigers with 24 hours until a reveal. Don’t be surprised if On3 RPM picks start rolling in for LSU here given the lack of increased confidence coming out of South Bend (and elsewhere). With Louisiana 4-star TaRon Francis on board, a commitment from Meadows would give LSU not just a second 4-star wide receiver, but another Top 50 overall prospect and a Top 10 wide receiver on the On3 Industry Rankings.

Will a one-time LSU commit get back on board before expected?

4-star CB Jaboree Antoine … To start the week, we firmly felt Miami was the team to beat. The one-time LSU commitment backed off his pledge to the Tigers on June 23, and less than a month later, the Louisiana 4-star will announce his college choice (again). There was a top three of LSU, Florida State and Miami, but Antoine trimmed that list to Miami and LSU earlier this week. When LSU landed the No. 1 cornerback in America by beating out Miami and Oregon for 5-star+ prospect DJ Pickett, LSU’s staff quickly went into overdrive to see if Antoine might pop for the Tigers on Saturday instead of choosing the Hurricanes. We felt this was one to monitor closer to Signing Day, and while that remains the case, LSU’s push this week went even further than we expected at this stage.

Where I’m leaning: What does LSU’s late push mean when the dust settles? I started the week with Miami as my frontrunner, though after the Tigers turned up the heat, I held off on flipping my On3 RPM pick away from LSU – one I had made before Antoine committed to LSU back in January. From speaking with sources, the push from the LSU staff has been very strong, which has included everything from staying home in Louisiana, joining a Top 3 class as a cornerback alongside Pickett, NIL discussions and more. Still, sources feel Antoine is still leaning towards the opportunity to commit to Miami, a program needing a win at cornerback after losing out on a top priority in Pickett. If the next 24 hours changes anything, I’ll pass it along. But for now, I feel Miami is the team still out front.
