Report: Trevor Lawrence suffered sprained throwing shoulder late vs. Buccaneers
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence reportedly suffered a sprained right shoulder, according to a report from the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Lawrence suffered the injury to his throwing shoulder in a Christmas Eve game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Rapoport notes that the shoulder sprain was revealed following an MRI, but it’s not believed to be a major injury and it’s unclear how it will impact his availability going forward this week.
The injury occurred when Lawrence stretched out for a first down, diving on the sideline on a fourth-and-1 play during the third quarter of the game.
He landed on his right shoulder and slid into the bench area.
Lawrence would remain in the game and finished 4-of-5 passing, but his shoulder clearly seemed to be bothering him. He spoke to ESPN about the injury following the game.
“When I landed I knew something was off,” Lawrence said. “And the next play it kind of hurts to throw. I wanted to finish the drive out and we were able to get some points, and then on the two-point [conversion attempt] could tell by the way I threw it I couldn’t really get my shoulder up good enough to really keep playing.
“I would’ve loved to have stayed in but just kind of hurting everybody at that point if I do, so they made the call to just take a seat the rest of the night.”
Jacksonville is pushing for an NFL playoff berth at 8-7, current in a three-way tie atop the AFC South, with Indianapolis and Houston also sitting at 8-7.
The next game for the Jaguars will be on New Year’s Eve against the Carolina Panthers. That game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff on CBS.
