Rusty’s Ramblings: Big week ahead, young Georgia players making move
Georgia is set to host recruits this weekend and we do expect it to be a strong list. This weekend and next, the last two home games of the season, as crazy as that sounds, should be big weekends. Where does the time go?
With that being said we will start doing our expected visitor list on Tuesday and run it all week long for you guys. Today I wanted to finish up some thoughts after rewatching the Florida game one more time.
*** You can tell that pass rush was the big emphasis during the bye week. Georgia had four sacks and eight tackles for loss against the Gators. Georgia wanted to come after Graham Mertz and they felt like his legs were not going to beat them, so they brought defenders from all angles to get to home.
Can’t help to watch the few samples of Damon Wilson and not get excited about what he can do down the line. No one talks about being able to bend at the ankles, but this guy can do it and out-leverage some bigger offensive tackles.
As a young evaluator, I remember someone telling me that Ray Drew was “ankle stiff” in high school and I looked at them as if they told me the moon was green. I had no idea what it meant, but I do now and you better not have that as a pass rusher because eventually it will catch up against you and elite offensive tackles.
Most of you noticed that wide receiver C.J. Smith was in early and got some reps. I continue to hear he is impressing in practice and you see that with more time. Just tuck that away because he is another one with verified track speed coming out of high school. He may be a name that can make a play or two in some important games over the next few weeks.
