Rusty’s Ramblings: Georgia leads for portal target, Kirby Smart hits road, latest on Carson Beck

The transfer portal has been open for just two days and things are not slowing down. DawgsHQ is delivering the latest on the portal, the recruiting trail, and Carson Beck’s upcoming defision.

*** I’ve confirmed a few expected stops for Georgia on Tuesday. Mike Bobo is in Arkansas for the Frank Broyles award ceremony and that should be over around 2 p.m. ET. He will then board a plane to Boston where he will check in with Ryan Puglisi and his family.

Dell McGee is expected to see his third running back in three days. He’s checking in on four-star ball carrier Chauncey Bowens on Tuesday. He flew out to see Nate Frazier on Sunday and visited with Dwight Phillips on Monday.

Kirby Smart is on the road Tuesday and he’s in Nashville to do an in-home with Ondre Evans. With him being in Nashville, it would not surprise me at all if he got some face time with Vanderbilt transfer wideout London Humphreys. He and Evans are close friends, so there is that. He is officially in the portal, so seeing him is legal. Humphreys will be in Athens this weekend for an official visit. Georgia is the clear team to beat here for the transfer receiver.

Todd Hartley was in Camden County on Tuesday morning and he was seeing his 2025 five-star commit Elyiss Williams. I am telling you right now, I am not sure there is a better tight end in the country for the ’25 class. This guy is freaky and in speaking with teams that have faced him this season, I’m told that he’s hard to cover. Williams is also hard to block when he’s on the other side of the ball. He is a problem in a 6-foot-7 frame.

*** Not much more to report on Carson Beck so far today. I do think we will know something sooner rather than later on this. I also think the longer it goes, the better it is for UGA. Credit to Beck and his family for taking everything in before making a decision like this.
