Simmons Scoop: Kansas State, Ohio State and Oregon are trending for top 2025 playmakers
It is early, but blue-chippers in the 2025 class are already cutting down their lists, favorites are emerging, and even some are committing. That is how recruiting works these days. Prospects commit early, other schools continue to recruit them, many take visits and the race stays interesting until late in the process. This cycle should be no different.
Out of the Top 20 tight ends, eight have already committed to a school. Georgia has two committed. Schools like LSU, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Texas have one as well. On3’s Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons shares the latest intel on some of the top uncommitted at this position:
4-star TE Linkon Cure
The buzz: Due to Linkon Cure‘s basketball schedule, he is not going to visit any school in January or the first weekend in February. Late in 2023, Kansas State was close to picking up a commitment from the in-state target, but with Collin Klein’s move from Manhatten to College Station, that slowed Cure’s recruitment down a little. But Conor Riley has come in, the two have communicated and Cure knows Brian Lepak and Chris Klieman well. Kansas State is still in the driver’s seat for Cure. USC offered recently. Oregon and Penn State are on his list. Texas A&M is intriguing because of the connection to Klein, but all of those schools have significant ground to make up and a decision could come sooner than later.
4-star TE Dasaahn Brame
The buzz: Follow the visits. Dasaahn Brame was at Oregon last summer, again in the fall and he is set to return to Eugene on Feb. 3. Most of the offensive staff and head coach Dan Lanning is recruiting Brame for the Ducks. Every time he can, tight ends coach Drew Mehringer makes the stop at Derby (Kan.) and that relationship is strong. Oregon is trending for Brame. Colorado, Michigan and USC are others in the mix, but all are chasing the Ducks.
4-star TE Nate Roberts
The buzz: Nate Roberts will be back at Ohio State this weekend and the Buckeyes are setting the pace in this race. The one-time Notre Dame commit is visiting Miami next weekend, then Oregon on Feb. 3. Those two programs, along with Oklahoma are contenders for Roberts, but Ohio State could be tough to beat. His connection with Keenan Bailey, Ohio State’s production at tight end and the fit in the offense have the Buckeyes trending. There is no timeline on his commitment, but a decision could come sooner than later.
4-star TE Brock Schott
The buzz: Things have been picking up for Brock Schott of late. New offers are coming in and Ohio State could be next for the tight end in Leo (Ind.). The Buckeyes have been in contact a lot lately, and if they offer, they immediately become a school toward the top of Schott’s list. Iowa and Miami seems to be high on his list. The history with tight ends have Schott’s attention. He plans to visit Coral Gables on March 23. Others like Louisville, Stanford and Wisconsin have offered and are on his list.
4-star TE Marshall Pritchett
The buzz: Officially, Marshall Pritchett has a Top 10, but there are a couple of schools with buzz around them. He visited North Carolina last weekend, and the Tar Heels are one to watch. The other is South Carolina, Pritchett’s home state. If one school had a slight advantage at this stage, it might be the Gamecocks. Their usage of the tight end, the relationships there and the location only help Shane Beamer’s program. Michigan is another school with some buzz around it. Pritchett will visit Miami this weekend, so the Hurricanes will look to impress.
