Texas defensive lineman Landon Rink earns Auburn offer, eyes April visit
Defensive lineman Landon Rink earned an offer from Auburn on Tuesday.
Rink, who attends Cy-Fair High in Cypress, Texas, learned of the offer during a phone conversation with three Auburn coaches.
“I was definitely excited to hear it,” he said.
Rink spoke with new defensive line coach Vontrell King-Williams, defensive line analyst Brett Kulka and new defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin. He already was familiar with both Kulka and Durkin from their time at Texas A&M.
“That was my first time talking to Coach Vontrell,” Rink said. “He seems like a real energized guy. I like his energy. And I talked to Coach Kulka and Coach Durkin when they were at A&M. I already had pretty good relationships with both of them. They loved me when they were at A&M, so I talked to them a lot.”
Rink thinks highly of Durkin.
“Coach Durkin is a great guy,” he said. “I know he could put me in positions where I could succeed and get to the next level. When he was at A&M, said he sees me playing anything across the defensive line.”
Rink eyeing visit to Auburn in April
The coaches hope to get Rink on Auburn’s campus soon, and he’s already eyeing a trip in April.
“They really want to get me on campus,” he said. “I’ve never been to Auburn, but I definitely want to go. I think I might be able to go for the spring game on April 6.”
Rink never has been to Auburn, but he’s somewhat familiar with the Tigers.
“One of my favorite players of all time is Cam Newton,” he said. “So, I know a little bit about Auburn.”
Rink has several visits already set for the spring. According to On3’s Sam Spiegelman, Rink is set to visit Missouri on March 9, Ohio State on March 18, USC on March 23, Texas A&M on March 26, Penn State on March 29 and back to A&M on April 20.
Rink is ranked as the No. 413 overall prospect in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks the No. 41 defensive lineman in the class and No. 69 overall recruit from Texas.
On3 Scouting Summary – Houston Summer Camp (June 2022)
Worked out as an edge rusher on was by far the best defensive 2025 prospect at the entire camp. Muscled up build with even weight distribution throughout frame. Lacks ideal length for edge rusher but still a long way to go.
Showed the twitch and get off of a Power 5 prospect. Possesses an advanced feel for rushing the passer and plays with solid leverage. Can get a bit out of control and wild at times with his balance. High upside prospect.
