Texas has the attention of 2025 CB Major Preston

Texas has the attention of 2025 CB Major Preston

Some of the top college football programs in the country are involved in the recruitment of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy cornerback Major Preston. Texas recently became one of them.

The Longhorns have been in pursuit of Preston since offering him on Jan. 30. As a result of his newfound interest in Texas, the 6-foot-2, 170-pound defensive back will make his first trip to Austin on April 13 for an unofficial visit.

“On the visit, I want to see the program, meet great people on campus and build a closer bond with the coaches,” Preston told On3. “I want to meet (head) coach (Steve Sarkisian) and get to see how they work and practice.”

Preston is excited to learn more about Texas, as the Longhorns are coming off a season in which they won the Big 12 Championship and made the College Football Playoff. One of his former teammates – safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell – recently signed with Texas’ 2024 recruiting class as a four-star recruit.

Texas is not the only school Preston hopes to see, as Colorado, Florida, Louisville, Michigan, Oklahoma and Texas A&M also interest him. However, the Longhorns are certainly standing out to Preston, in large part because of safeties coach Blake Gideon.

“Me and coach Gideon have had a great bond since the day he came to the school,” said Preston, who is originally from Hopewell, Va. “We had a great conversation and we have talked multiple other times since he offered me. We have a great bond. Even after Texas offered, coach Gideon was in the (D.C.-Maryland-Virginia) area one day and he wanted to stop by my house in Virginia and talk with my family.”

Other top programs are also pushing for Preston

Before the dead period began, Florida was one of the schools to host Preston. He made back-to-back trips to Gainesville on the weekends of Jan. 20 and Jan. 27.

A key reason for his interest in the Gators is new defensive backs coach Will Harris. During one of his trips to Florida’s campus, they spent time in a meeting room and discussed the game.

“Me and him have a great bond,” Preston previously told On3 on Feb. 6. “That’s my guy. He showed a lot of love. He taught me a lot of things. Me and him will definitely be locked in in the future.”

Miami is another program working to keep Preston in the Sunshine State. He received an offer from the Hurricanes on Jan. 25 and made a trip to Coral Gables shortly after.

“I feel like The U is a very good program,” Preston told CaneSport on Feb. 11. “They’re making things happen over there with (head) coach (Mario) Cristobal. They’re doing big things and are on the come up.”
