Texas WR knows 4 official visits — and the Gators are getting 1 of them

The Florida Gators are making Dane Jones feel like an important recruit.

“I definitely feel like they’re making me a big priority,” Jones said. “Every time I come up there, they make me feel at home. It’s a great vibe there.”

Jones, a 3-star receiver from Pearland (Texas) Ridge Point, most recently visited the Gators in January. He now has been to Gainesville three times.

The next time Jones steps on campus, it will be for an official. And it “most likely” will take place in June.

“I’ve been talking to (Florida receivers coach Billy Gonzales) about a date,” Jones said. “We just haven’t got the date yet. But most of (his officials) are going to be in June.”

Also getting officials: “TCU, Kansas State, Missouri and maybe SMU.”

Jones is coming off a strong junior season. He finished with 50 receptions for 825 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The Gators are recruiting Jones hard, he said Monday.

“I talk to them every week and depending on the week the majority of the week,” Jones said. “Coach G. and Coach (David) Doeker. They just know how to develop receivers. Coach G. has a lot of knowledge at the receiver position. He knows what he’s doing on offense. He’s a great wide receiver coach. Coach Doeker, same thing. Great wide receiver coach. Knows the position.”

UF is one of the schools recruiting Dane Jones the hardest

Who is recruiting him the hardest?

“TCU, Florida and Kansas State,” Jones said.

Jones doesn’t have an official leader but hinted one school is standing out. He wouldn’t say which one. But he did say what has that program in a favorable spot.

“Just the wide receiver coaches,” he said. “That’s the main thing I look at. I’m choosing my school off the relationship I have. Have they played the game, what’s their experience and who have they put in the league?”

According to Jones, who is listed at 5-foot-11 and 174 pounds, he is looking to commit “before my season starts.”
