Three teams are moving the needle with 2025 four-star RB Jaylon Coleman

2025 four-star RB Jaylon Coleman put the finishing touches on another fantastic season toting the rock.

Schools in-state and around the country have continued to state their case to Coleman and three teams have already started to separate from the pack with the standout from the Bayou River Parishes. Florida State, Oregon and Tulane are making the strongest impressions on the On3 Industry Ranking‘s No. 24-rated running back in next year’s recruiting cycle out of Houma (La.) Vandebilt Catholic High.

“They offer assistance when needed and always give me knowledge that will help me on the next level,” Coleman said of the three programs. “They also inform me on how they will use me in their schemes.”

The Ducks have been quacking a lot in Louisiana of late.

Oregon RB coach Carlos Locklyn has maintained a heavy presence in Coleman’s recruitment throughout the fall. He’s been able to connect to the back on the field and away from it.

“Oregon really stands out to me because they want to build a program that is disciplined and that doesn’t cheat the game,” Coleman said of the Ducks. “Everyone up there in Oregon is fast, in my opinion, and if you are there you are meant to be there! I like about my fit is that I’ll be used in the best way possible either in the return game, out of the backfield, or out in the slot.”

“Coach Lock tells me he is the best college football coach and he gives me glimpses of it when I watch the games and when he quizzes me on history or the game,” the four-star RB added.

Florida State’s David Johnson has also been consistent in his pursuit of one of The Boot’s best.

Johnson, a native of Louisiana, has drawn comparisons between Coleman and current Seminole Ja’Khi Douglas, who shares the same hometown as him.

“Coach Johnson is always giving me knowledge on trusting him as a coach and being able to give him everything in the tank,” he started. “He makes Florida State feel like home because he knows where I come from. He said he sees similarities to Jaylin Lucas and Ja’Khi Douglas, who grew up close to me. That means a lot because they have great roles in their offenses. Coach always keeps me in the loop and teaches me about the game.”

The Green Wave also came on strong with Coleman this fall amid another strong season under the watch of Willie Fritz, now the head coach at Houston.

Tulane still has major appeal to the in-state 2025 back.

“They’ve always respected me when I was there along with giving me knowledge on how they plan on using me in the passing game and return game,” Coleman said. “They explained to me before the season they would have a good year and they did nobody seemed out of sync when watching them close-up. The coaches had all the players invested in every moment. Coach (Carter) Sheridan made me feel welcomed by giving me his knowledge and reasons on why everything is important to be precise.”

Coleman is the No. 316 overall player in the country for the 2025 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. The dynamic back is also tabbed as the No. 9-rated player out of Louisiana.
