Three teams leading the way early with 2025 S Colin Peacock
ARLINGTON, Texas — Colin Peacock helped his Gunter (Texas) High team capture a Class 3A Division II state championship on Thursday night in AT&T Stadium.
Peacock, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound 2025 safety out of North Texas, relished in the victory and the season’s worth of hard work paying off.
“It was awesome,” Peacock said post-game. “We worked so hard for this. Everyone executed during the game and everyone played so well.”
The hard-hitting Peacock makes his presence felt on both sides of the ball — at safety and also at receiver.
His strong performance at camps this summer and again as a junior helped him land several offers, including Baylor, Kansas and Oklahoma. Peacock has missed the latter part of his season dealing with a two collarbone injuries.
“A lot of schools have reached out to me and supported me through injury, and it has been awesome to see those schools come through,” he told On3. “A lot of the ones that have offered me have been reaching out, telling me they hope that you get better hope and you get back on the field, and to ball out next year.”
Baylor safeties coach/defensive coordinator Matt Powledge has been making a strong push for one of Texas’ top junior defenders in next year’s recruiting cycle.
“He came up and we had a good, long conversation during practice, and it was awesome to get to know him, to talk about our team and our success,” Peacock said. “He’s so easy to talk to, he understands lot about us.”
The 2025 safety liked what he saw from Lance Leipold’s Kansas Jayhawks this past season, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
“Coach came up and told me all about their come-up and what they’ve been doing to have success,” he said. “He let me know all about them, how it’s cool to play in Lawrence, and he said I’d fit in pretty well there.”
Oklahoma extended an offer to Peacock in camp over the summer. Safeties coach Brandon Hall has been in his ear ever since.
“They’ve got some really cool things going on,” Peacock said of the Sooners. “They had good success this season and they’ve been reaching out a lot recently. Coach Hall — he’s really cool, good to talk to, and lets me know all about the game, even the little things.”
Now that his championship run is over, Peacock is expected to make junior day visits to these schools beginning next month to “get to know their coaches and campus more.”
