Three Things To Watch during Florida State’s massive recruiting weekend
The biggest recruiting weekend of 2023 has arrived for the Florida State football team, with rival Miami coming to town and over 100 prospects expected to be in attendance.
With so much intrigue and excitement surrounding the big weekend, here are three things to watch:
1. Can Florida State start shaping ’25 class?
While Florida State is still putting the finishing touches on its 2024 signing class, there is going to be some serious talent on hand this weekend for the 2025 class as well. Headlining that list of 2025 recruits will be major running back targets and four-star standouts Ousmane Kromah and Taevion Swint, who is committed to UCF. FSU sits in a strong spot for Kromah, and the Seminoles are building some momentum with Swint, who visited for the Duke game.
Then at receiver, the name everyone is focused on this weekend is five-star Jaime Ffrench, who the ‘Noles have not let up on despite his pledge to Alabama. Ffrench is very impressed with this Florida State offense, and this weekend will be his first chance to see it this season at Doak. He’s not alone though, as FSU will also host four-star receivers Daylan McClutcheon, 2026 standout Jabari Brady and three-star Koby Howard, who FSU also sits in a good spot for. Early indications are Texas leads for McClutcheon, but FSU also high on his list.
Florida State will host some big-talent in the trenches as well, as five-star OL David Sanders is expected to be in attendance. Georgia seems to be the team mentioned the most lately, but Sanders also visited FSU for the Seminole Showcase this summer and has built a strong bond with Alex Atkins. Intel suggests that FSU leads for four-star OL Ziyare Addison, who will be back on campus again this weekend. Four-star OL Brayden Jacobs is another one to watch.
Several talented young tight ends are also expected in Tallahassee, including 2026 four-star TE Kendre Harrison. Harrison is a freakish athlete that FSU got on campus this spring. Penn State, Georgia and others have also been mentioned heavily. If all goes well, FSU could make a move again this weekend.
Then on defense, the Seminoles are expecting in five-star LB Zayden Walker, who I feel Georgia holds the edge for. So this is vital to have him on campus this weekend since Walker hasn’t visited since the summer. FSU also will host four-star edge standout Jared Smith, five-star DB DJ Pickett, four-star DB Hylton Stubbs and four-star cornerback Chris Ewald. All four are prospects that I hear FSU covets highly for the 2025 class.

2. Commit watch this weekend for Florida State?
While there’s not an expectation of a commit to pop for sure this weekend, there are some prospects that we are keeping an eye on in that regard. One of the highest chances might be with four-star OL Ziyare Addison. He has had FSU on top for quite some time, and the ‘Noles feel very good about their position. He hasn’t set a timeline on a decision, but if everything clicks, he might jump on board.
FSU is also in a great spot for Koby Howard, who is originally from the panhandle but transferred to Western High in Davie to finish out his high school career. Howard already attended the FSU-Duke game, and the ‘Noles could make a push for him with a great weekend visit.
Four-star RB Ousmane Kromah has been a regular at FSU and is another one to keep an eye on to really kick off the 2025 class. You also have 2025 four-star DE Javion Hilson, who has stated previously that FSU is the leader in his recruitment and he’s expected back this weekend for a visit.
3. Will flip season continue?
It’s no secret that Florida State is hoping for more big flips to finish off this top-five class. At the top of that wish list is five-star WR Jeremiah Smith, who is committed to Ohio State. Smith is also expected to take an official visit to FSU later this year. This weekend should tell a lot about those chances.
Another big visitor to watch at receiver is five-star Cam Coleman, who is committed to Texas A&M. Coleman visited Auburn and Florida recently. Although the Tigers are considered the biggest threat for a flip, FSU has a good chance to make a move with Coleman, who visited this summer for the Seminole Showcase.
One of the top DBs in the country, Wardell Mack, will also be in attendance. This is his third visit to FSU, but more importantly his first visit to Doak for a game. Mack is committed to Florida, but he has always had a strong connection to Seminole assistants David Johnson and Patrick Surtain.
The ‘Noles also are hosting Xavier Lucas, who is committed to Wisconsin. The intel suggests that FSU has some momentum with Lucas, who also visited the ‘Noles in the spring. Lastly at defensive back, there is four-star Cai Bates of Orlando Edgewater. He’s committed to LSU, but he’s still looking around to make sure. Bates visited Texas A&M last weekend.
