Top 100 WR Quincy Porter goes in-depth on Michigan, Sherrone Moore reaching out
Top 100 Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic wide receiver Quincy Porter is one of Michigan’s most important targets in the 2025 recruiting class.
The Wolverines have a glaring need for a true big-bodied pass catcher on the outside, and Porter definitely fits the description at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds. Porter has yet to release a top schools list, but it’s safe to say Michigan is definitely in the mix.
“I like everything at Michigan,” Porter said. “I like the coaches. I know Coach (Jim) Harbaugh left, but I’ve talked to Coach (Sherrone) Moore, and he was there when I visited, so it’s still a familiar face. They are definitely a school I really like.”
As Porter mentioned, new Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore has already been in touch and will be personally involved in his recruitment.
“He let me know that he was taking the head coaching job,” Porter said. “It was more casual conversation. It wasn’t just straight recruiting. When we watched Michigan last year, he didn’t lose as the head coach, so that was good.”
Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy has been leading the way for Porter and stopped by Bergen Catholic to see him during the contact period.
“We have a good relationship,” Porter said. “We talk a lot. I don’t know how to explain it, but he’s just really cool. He helps me out wide my wide receiver stuff as well. It’s not just recruiting. He’s also trying to help me get better. That’s a good thing.”
Moore and Bellamy are also getting an assist from area recruiter Grant Newsome, who was actually the first U-M staff member to identify him.
“I like him a lot,” Porter said. “He came down to first offer me. He’s actually been down here a few times. We spoke to him a lot on the visit, too. I like that he’s from Jersey. He was friends with one of my coaches, so that’s good.”
Michigan is known as a run heavy offense, which can, at times, hurt Michigan’s efforts with blue chip wide receivers on the recruiting trail. However, Porter doesn’t mind the pro-style scheme and is interested to see if any changes are made under Moore.
“I’ll have to see what the offense looks like with Coach Moore and the new offensive coordinator (Kirk Campbell),” Porter said. “But I like that they have two receivers going to the draft.”
Porter visited Michigan for the BBQ at The Big House last summer and is looking to get back to campus at some point this spring.
“I want to shadow a player and get their perspective,” Porter said. “That’s kind of what I’m looking for on these visits coming up.”
Along with Michigan, Porter holds offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas and others.
At 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, Porter is ranked as the No. 6 wide receiver and No. 34 overall recruit nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking.
