Top 200 recruit puts Penn State in top five: Newsstand
Penn State news, notes, and updates for March 12 include a new home for Saquon Barkley, a top five for a top 200 recruit, and more.
It’s time to dive into Tuesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.
Penn State tweets of the day
We start with recruiting. Nate Roberts, a four-star tight end from Washington, Okla., has a top five that includes Penn State. He will officially visit the Lions May 31-June 2. He will be at Ole Miss April 27-29, Ohio State June 7-9, Oregon June 14-16 and Oklahoma June 21-23. Those schools, along with the Nittany Lions, make up the 6-foot-3, 220-pound Class of 2025 prospect’s list of finalists. He hopes to make a decision after all of those trips are complete. The Buckeyes currently lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
“The main thing that sticks out about Penn State is their tight end use,” Roberts told On3’s Chad Simmons. “They have produced NFL draft picks at my position and they continue to use tight ends in their offense. Coach Ty Howle is part of my interest too. We have a good connection, I talk with him a lot and he is a great guy. Then Penn State has that fan base and environment. There is a lot about Penn State I like.”
Roberts is the No. 142 overall player and No. 6 tight end in the On3 Industry Rankings.
In other news, Saquon Barkley has a new NFL home. The Penn State alum will sign a three-year deal worth somewhere between $37.75 and $46.75 million with the Philadelphia Eagles when the new league year starts Wednesday afternoon. ESPN says that $26 million of the deal is guaranteed.

Quote of the day
“I hope to know where I want to be after the official visits. I am focused on these five schools and my plan is to commit to one this summer after the visits.
“The visits will be important because I what I really will rely on when it comes time to commit is how I feel when I am there. My gut will be very important. The relationships and if I see myself fitting in there for four years are important too, but the feeling I have on campus will be so important.”
