Top-50 Miami target gives thoughts on Hurricanes, Seminoles following rivalry game

Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage four-star 2025 running back DeAndre Desinor, the No. 50 overall prospect in the On300 and one of Miami’s top targets in next year’s recruiting cycle, was one of more than a dozen Miami recruits in Tallahassee for Saturday’s rivalry contest between Miami and Florida State.

However, his view of the two schools wasn’t affected by the game’s outcome.

Desinor has taken game-day visits to both Miami and Florida State this fall, and while Miami currently leads for the class’ No. 4 running back according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, he’s found plenty to like about both programs. He wouldn’t say either school has a slight edge at the moment but has seen both programs’ recruiting efforts intensify in recent weeks as an early in-state recruiting battle has taken shape for the two programs.

“I expected it to be a close game,” Desinor said. “It’s FSU and Miami, so it’s a big rivalry, but then FSU pulled away and got the W. The atmosphere was crazy. When they said it was a sold-out game, it really was. I didn’t see any empty seats at all. …I saw Miami has some really supportive fans who made that trip up to come to the game.”

Desinor was impressed with how Miami’s running backs played, noting they bounced off big hits and hit running lanes aggressively. He was particularly impressed by Don Chaney, who ran for 85 yards on 12 carries. Miami ran for 138 yards not including quarterback Emory Williams’ scrambles and sacks.

“Both teams stepped up,” Desinor said. “It’s not like either of them gave up or played down. They both stepped up and competed, and that’s what I like. Nothing really changed on how I see either of those schools.”

Desinor has continued to hold Miami in particularly high regard throughout his recruitment and may return to Hard Rock Stadium for the Hurricanes’ game against Louisville this weekend, although he has not locked in a visit. Desinor told CaneSport last week Miami is currently recruiting him the hardest and has built a strong relationship with running backs coach Tim Harris, who began recruiting him while he was on UCF’s staff.

CaneSport’s Take

My read here is Miami is in a slightly more favorable position than Florida State at the moment due to the Hurricanes’ status as the hometown school and freshman running back Mark Fletchter’s (another American Heritage alum) success in his first year, but that could change in a heartbeat. The Seminoles were one of the first three programs to offer Desinor, and Florida State’s continued interest and recruitment of him has kept FSU high on his radar.

Desinor isn’t one to make quick decisions, however, so we believe he’ll take his recruitment at least through the end of the season.
