USC Closing Strong with 4-Star On300 DL Jide Abasiri
Savage (Minn.) Prior Lake four-star defensive lineman Jide Abasiri received an offer from USC on Nov. 19 and announced the news on Twitter. A that time Abasiri was committed to hometown school Minnesota.
A lot has happened in a relatively short amount of time with Abasiri’s offer from the Trojans. Abasiri took an official visit to USC Dec. 8-10, he decommitted from Minnesota on Dec. 11 and now we hate for his final decision. The decision seems like a simple one at this time, but that decision may come later this week.
Abasiri is the No. 600 overall prospect and No. 59 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 4 player in Minnesota.
The 6-foot-6, 270-pound Abasiri holds Power Five offers from USC, Washington, Missouri, Minnesota, Kansas St., Kansas, Iowa St. and Central Michigan.
USC official visit impact
“I wasn’t even planning on going to the visit at first, but thankfully I did,” said Abasiri. “I just saw how many opportunities were out there in Los Angeles, and saw how good of a school USC is. Not just for football, but for academics and the brand itself.
“So, I saw everything and I saw how they would use me in their defense. I talked to Coach (D’Anton) Lynn and they would just help me prepare for the NFL really well.”
Abasiri’s Role in the Defense
“They want me to rush the passer, stop the run and then maybe even drop back into coverage,” Aabasiri said. “Me and Coach Lynn had a meeting and he was showing me the UCLA film. He showed me how they ran their defense and where they envisioned me and that I reminded him a lot Liatu Latu. In that we’re very versatile and in terms of size…and everything.
“They see me as an edge rusher or outside linebacker.”
Family’s Impression of USC
“They really wanted me to go there,” said Abasiri. “Mid visit I was still iffy on everything, but they’re like, nah, you’re going here. I always thought Los Angeles was not that big , but then you get there and it’s really eye-opening. It’s really, really amazing.”
Scott’s Thoughts
First off, Jide is an extremely impressive young dude. Turns out he was looking for a spot with a little more positive outlook in the neat future. Adding D’Anton Lynn made it possible to be in a staring position to sign Aabasiri. Lynn was who he spent most of his time with over the weekend, but was also with Shaun Nua often.
Aabasiri told us he will graduate in December and enroll at his school choice in January. Me and Marshall Levenson have submitted USC predictions.
