Where Florida’s recruiting class ranks in the SEC

One of the premier wide receivers in the Sunshine State, Joshua Moore, is now off the board after committing to the Florida Gators on Wednesday. Florida State was the additional finalist.

With that verbal pledge, the Gators’ 2025 class now features seven prospects. Four of those rising seniors boast a 4-star ranking and three committed in June, so Florida hopes to capitalize off its momentum.

From a national standpoint, however, the Gators are in an unfamiliar place. Their class currently ranks 47th in the country and 15th in the SEC. Only Vanderbilt has a lower-ranked class in the SEC right now.

It’s also worth noting that Florida’s total of seven commits is the lowest in the SEC. Ole Miss and Vanderbilt are tied just above the Gators with nine each. Many of us expected some prospects to take a wait-and-see approach with Florida, while plenty others are coming off the board in July; however, it’s still not a place you want to be in with a very important season approaching.

On a brighter note though, the Florida Gators could be inching closer to another commitment. That prospect of note is Jacksonville (Fla.) Riverside tight end Tae’Shaun Gelsey, who is trending heavily toward the Gators ahead of Saturday’s decision. Elite pass catcher Vernell Brown III could be a Gator sooner than later too, so you can expect UF’s ranking to ultimately fluctuate for the better. Gear up, UF fans; it’s that time of year.
