Wolverine TV: A win over Alabama could help Michigan with these five recruits…

The Wolverine’s EJ Holland broke down five recruits a Michigan win over Alabama in the Rose Bowl would help with, including five-star Zephyrhills (Fla.) High defensive back DJ Pickett.

Pickett is arguably the most important defensive target for Michigan in the 2025 recruiting class. The Wolverines are making him a top priority and have already hosted him for four unofficial visits.

The latest trip to Ann Arbor came in November as Pickett took in Michigan’s win over rival Ohio State in The Big House.

Here is what Holland had to say about Pickett’s recruitment.

“His mother went to Michigan, he has family members that have worked at the university, his grandmother lives in the area and his brother went to Eastern Michigan,” Holland said. “He’s very, very familiar with Ann Arbor and the surrounding areas and the University of Michigan as a football program and as an institution. I think Michigan has really impressed Pickett. He knows he has the opportunity to come in and be a Day 1 starter. I think Michigan has done a fantastic job in this recruitment.”

Pickett recently named Michigan in his Top 5 along with Alabama, Georgia, Miami and Oregon.

At 6-foot-3, 170 pounds, Pickett is ranked as the No. 1 safety and No. 7 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of Florida for next cycle.

Michigan has three verbal commitments in its 2025 recruiting class in Top 100 Miami (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna defensive back Chris Ewald, On300 Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot quarterback Carter Smith and four-star Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka. The class is currently ranked No. 10 nationally and No. 3 in the Big Ten, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings.
