Wolverine TV: Jim Harbaugh breaks down Michigan win over Purdue

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan Wolverines football head coach Jim Harbaugh met with the media following his team’s 41-13 win over Purdue Saturday night at The Big House. Watch video from his press conference in the player at the top of the screen or on our YouTube channel.

Harbaugh was asked about the Big Ten potentially punishing Michigan amid its alleged off-campus scouting allegations.

“I’m not talking about them,” Harbaugh said. “I really want to talk about the game. The guys are such stalwarts, and the comments keep coming about why they’re good, how they’re good. They’re just good. If you know football and you watch our guys play, I’ve said it before. There are 20, 22, 23 guys that are going to be playing on Sundays next year. I truly believe there’s another 30, 35 right behind them that will return, and others that will be developing. It’s just really good players.

“If you know football and just watch the game, turn on the tape, that’s why they’re so good. They’re good at it.”

Junior quarterback J.J. McCarthy completed 65 percent of his passes, which is down from his typical mark for the season, but he still threw for 335 yards and led a U-M offense that scored 41 points in a blowout victory. The standards are high for him, Harbaugh pointed out.

“Really good. Probably if I look back, it would have been a career night or most quarterbacks, me included,” the Michigan coach said. “As I said, 65 percent, 335 yards, really great plays. Some things to clean up. Missed on a location on a couple balls and we had some drops. But great to get the win and still have a couple things to work on. I don’t know what J.J.’s competition was coming into the game, 78.1.

“Now … might have dropped a couple points. But that’s just … we probably maybe three balls would have been a little better location, three or four balls that would have been caught. Made the tough catch. Would have been close to 435 yards. That’s a big, big night. As I said, the amount of … judge a quarterback on third down. Judge how his numbers on third down, because that’s the money down. He’s been lights out.”
