Miami DB commit prepares for Hurricanes official visit, talks enrollment plans

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas three-star defensive back Ryan Mack wasn’t able to take his official visit to Miami this summer, so instead, nearly six months after his commitment, he’ll finally take his OV to Coral Gables this weekend.

Mack has remained firmly committed to the Hurricanes since committing June 2, choosing not to entertain other out-of-state programs and mentally locking in with his hometown school despite Miami’s inconsistencies this fall. Mack’s only other official visit came June 23, when the 5-foot-11 defensive back visited Pittsburgh before committing to the Hurricanes days later.

“I think (I’ve stayed so locked in with Miami) because they’ve made me feel like a priority,” Mack said. “They make me feel like I’m already part of the program. I’m really excited to do the different things they have planned for us (on the official visit). I’m really excited.”

Mack is expected to have a “day in the life” experience during his visit where he learns more about the day-to-day lives of Hurricane football players, but he added he’s particularly excited to spend extended time around his future teammates also taking official visits this weekend. Four-star receivers Joshisa Trader and Ny Carr and four-star safety Zaquan Patterson are also expected to take official visits to Miami this weekend after only taking unofficial game-day visits to The U this fall.

“It’s going to be very important for me to see how my everyday life is going to be and stuff like that,” Mack said. “I want to see how the program is going to work, where I’m going to fit in and things like that.”

Mack plans to sign Dec. 20 but will not be able to enroll until summer 2024, which appears to be the case for most if not all of St. Thomas Aquinas’ players in this year’s signing class. Mack’s teammates, four-star receiver Chance Robinson and three-star cornerback OJ Frederique, are also committed to Miami, and the Canes are continuing to work to flip four-star Ohio State running back commit Jordan Lyle as well.

Frederique and Robinson both took their official visits to Miami this summer. CaneSport recently reported Lyle may take an official visit to Miami before signing day.

CaneSport’s Take

Miami hasn’t had any reason to worry about Mack since he committed to the Hurricanes, but this weekend still looks to be a massive recruiting weekend as the Canes attempt to squeeze in one final group of major visitors before signing day.
