Top 100 TE Andrew Olesh on Penn State: ‘It kind of feels like a second home’

Penn State welcomed one of its top remaining 2025 targets to campus last weekend in Southern Lehigh tight end Andrew Olesh.

A resident of Center Valley, Pa., Olesh earned an offer from the Nittany Lions back in January. By that point, he had already either visited or camped with Penn State head coach James Franklin and the staff on six occasions, leading many to believe that the Lions would ultimately be in a strong position to win this recruitment.

However, Olesh went on a run of high-quality scholarship offers in the months that followed, making this recruitment one of the more intriguing ones to follow down the stretch.

“We got there Thursday night and just hung out at the hotel,” Olesh told On3’s Steve Wiltfong when asked about last weekend’s official visit. “Friday was kind of a meet and greet with all the coaches and stuff. We got to meet everyone and went over film a little bit. Friday was just kind of settling in. On Saturday, we did more of the fun stuff. We had a pool party that day, but there was also a lot of meetings and stuff. Sunday was the same thing. It was a good time overall.”

Olesh grew up following Penn State and has family who graduated from the school. Because of that, he’s well aware of what the program has done at the tight end position over the years.

“Definitely their tight end development,” Olesh said when asked what stands out to him about the program. “They’ve had so many tight ends go in the draft. Theo Johnson [went] in the fourth round [recently], as well as Brenton Strange and Pat Freiermuth. So, they’ve had so many guys going into the draft. Development there is huge.”

As for what specifically stood out about his visit, Olesh mentioned his relationship with tight ends coach Ty Howle and the entire Nittany Lion staff.

“The biggest takeaway from Penn State, I’d say, was probably just getting closer with the coaching staff,” he said. “I’ve been there so many times, but the more and more I’m there, the closer I get. It kind of feels like a second home cause of how close I am. So, it was pretty much just getting closer with the staff.”

So far, Olesh has taken three official visits in June. In addition to Penn State, he went to Alabama (May 31 to June 2) and Florida (June 7-9). He’s now expected to see Michigan this upcoming weekend, June 21 to 23. Many believe that the Wolverines are shaping up to be one of Penn State’s top competitors for his commitment.

“It really just comes back to the development they have,” Olesh said when asked what stands out most about Penn State. “Like I said, they have so many good guys coming out of there. But also, just the relationship I’ve built with their coaches.”

Olesh is a consensus four-star prospect. He’s ranked No. 115 nationally in On3’s Industry Rankings, fifth overall at the tight end position and No. 3 in Pennsylvania.
